Hello, hello, and welcome. You were hearing me do a little kundalini exercise there. Breathing, breathing in, checking our breathing. That's what this episode is all about today. I am obsessed with breathing, and this is because for most of my life, since I don't know when, that's a whole nother experiment that I think we will never know when things started in our life, how we progressed into wherever we are in this present moment, that is a mystery. And really, if we try to understand this and we try to go backwards, it's going to take us some time, and all is now being in the present moment is where we are supposed to be for our best optimum health. So literally, I'm checking in with myself daily and request upon all of us to check yourself as well as many, if not most, are holding our breath in some way without even realizing it. Now, this terminology simply means that we are holding our breathing by constricting it in some way. We are not fully breathing into the depths of our beingness. And when you notice that your neck and your upper back and your shoulders are tight or sore, this is one sign that your breathing is out of whack and signaling you a warning. Because if we were breathing properly, deeply into the depths of our being, as we are naturally supposed to be doing, and how we came into this world doing, then we would be completely relaxed in our upper body, because our lower body would be getting the breath that it needs into our organs, into our cells, and we would naturally be relaxed in our upper being. So if we are holding stress and tension and feeling it in our upper body, then definitely our lower body is being constricted as well, and we are not getting the breath down to where we need to be getting it. So I'm just touching on this today as a yoga practitioner, as you know, I have studied pranayama breath, and I want to continue studying in the time that I have left here on this planet. I am going to be sharing some things that I found. So today's episode is all about your breath, tapping into your breath more, which will then tap you into your intuition more, into your higher self more. Intuition again goes back to your gut health. So we're not talking about that, but gut health, yes, is very important. I talk about that in my gut health podcast, which was done last spring probably, before I ended up moving a few more times, and now I am settled into my new home. Thank God this last six weeks. I am settling in here, and I will be sharing more with you in the coming weeks and months. I'm very excited about. So, two weeks ago, I did not know what I was going to be talking about, and just in the last week, I decided yes, it needs to be the breath, and breath work is so important. So I will link my Substack in which I am speaking about a blog that I wrote the last few days, and there is a link there to a wonderful book that I got in my yoga teacher training, and it is a must-have book. I looked it up, it's only$5 online. Everybody should have a copy so they can really understand their breath, get the proper breathing exercises to get back into your breath wholeness. And that book I will reference here. So there is always a warning of some sort from our body when we need to shift something, as when the outer muscles of the body get tensed up, the inner muscles follow suit, and vice versa. When our breathing is dismantled or not free-flowing, then the rest of the body is also affected to be under constraint. Okay, so our bodies know and will tell us if we slow down enough to listen. So why not first and foremost check yourself? We wouldn't be alive without this breath that we were given to be here. Right? Our breath is connecting us to being here on this earth, on this planet. Without our breath, we would not even be here. So let's not take it for granted. Let's know the importance of it and value it and honor it and be in the full presence of it. Many of us are just treating it like it's nothing, moving through life unaware that it's even stopped, that we've even stopped consciously breathing. Modern-day living has changed how we breathe, and rightly so. We are walking within very similar bodies that we inherited the earth from. Our ancestors, generations before us, had an identical neuroendocrine system. Only they were not bombarded by constant neuroendodisruptors of all the synthetic man-made pollution from noises, lights, EMFs, and endless pressures of performing at an abnormal rate to survive. The very important essential endocrine system is our network of ductless glands and tissues that are throughout our body that secrete hormones directly into our bloodstream to regulate vital bodily processes, including metabolism, growth, reproduction, sleep, and mood, consisting of the hypothalamus gland, the pineal gland and pituitary glands, thyroid gland, adrenal glands, the pancreas, ovaries, and gonads, all releasing chemical messages from our hormones to maintain homeostasis. Unfortunately, our bodies weren't designed to be under constant stress, so of course we are prepared for possible unexpected natural stresses that may occur in which our sympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system, which governs the body's fight or flight response, preparing it for stress, exercise, or emergency situations. It increases our heart rate, dilates pupils, widens airways, and diverts blood to muscles while slowing down digestion. Also, we have a sudden energy when needed to be to basically fight for your life type situations. Obviously, the more this gets activated by what's called an arousal response, but not in a good way, the more stress hormones like cortisol flood the body, creating negative effects like chronic inflammation, which causes most diseases to set in. One of the first things that our bodies do when under stress is we change the way we breathe. Right? We either are constricting our breath and not breathing enough, or we may hyperventilate and breathe too much. It just is getting more irregular the more that we are under stresses. So depending on how much stress, trauma you've had, or experienced in your life, the breathing was definitely affected. And now where are you with your breath? So that is why I'm here to talk about the importance of the breath, getting back to this simple pleasure of connection. The breath is who we are, connecting us to our beingness here. And if we are fully embodying the breath that we all have to its full potential, then we will be the most connected to who we really are. So that is the truth. That is my perspective. If you step back and kind of think about that, it will make sense to you as well. So the good news is we are waking up to this phenomenon and slowly evolving as we may, heading back to where we are meant to be. The slow movement is happening, and like minds are becoming vastly aware to the changes that need to take place. Better said, we are coming full circle in this game of life we play. So many choices, consequences, lessons, shifts, growth, and expansion to be played every day in every moment. Wow. Grateful to be here, to be alive. Honoring the life we have to be honoring our breath every day. This is conscious effort to listen to your breath, slow it down, breathe more deeply, doing it in a three-parts sequence as an inhale. A little hold at the top, down to the bottom, as when you're inhaling, you're starting all the way at the top of your being and bringing it all the way down to the bottom, holding it at the bottom at my root chakra, all the way down, just holding it for a few seconds, and then exhaling out and imagining the breath coming all the way out, up through your chakras, releasing all the way out through the crown chakra. The key is inhaling through your nose. It's just better you get a fuller breath, doing it through your nose. It enters the body differently, consciously downwards throughout your body while expanding into your organs, holding as a gentle pause. Yes, this is an actual breath hold. Then exhaling slowly and completely with a goal to draw out more intentionally by increasing its length. So you can can increase the breath length through the exhale by a few seconds. So an example would be second counting of like six seconds inhaling two-second hold, and then an eight-second exhale, or an eight-second inhale, four-second hold, and a ten-second exhale, giving the last one to two seconds a final push to release anything unwanted, being intentional, being intentional. Okay, and you know, checking yourself throughout the day whenever you remember, because this is a practice, just like any kind of exercise, pranayama breath, is really connecting you and reteaching your body how to breathe, how to breathe in an effortless way someday, in this way that is very, very healing and connecting you to your highest potential, your greatest self, connecting you to source and why you're here. In a sense, this feels unnatural to even ask our nervous system to react differently to what it knows, right? So given it's receiving so much stimuli to deal with. Healing through such a paradoxical approach of simply breathing is no joke. Ironically, we also may hang around people who also resemble the same breathing patterns, just like we feel comfortable around those that share similar values. Spending more time with the people who have the space to breathe more fully in their lives can actually naturally shift your own breathing patterns. So that's kind of like an unconscious way of doing, you know, um, or of creating more breath into your being, and then your practice will get easier. So there are several breathing pattern types that the breathing book discusses, and I may gather this explanation more here in the near future as well. So the breathing book that I'm talking about is called Good Health and Vitality Through Essential Breath Work. It's by Donna Farhe, and it is an amazing book. It's a practical guide to improving concentration, deepening relaxation, and so much more. So it is probably, I don't know how there could be a better book, but it's probably the best book out there that talks about breathing. It will help you understand the way that you're breathing and why, and ways that you can breathe better. Working through the patterns to find your conditioning is a cause of celebration, like finding a gem that you once lost, leading to your own self-discovery of reclaiming the gift of your own breath. Simple visualization exercise for breathing too fast. Here is a short poem by Tigna Han. If you can just pause and honor the great Tigna with me, and this poem, contemplating. Breathing in, I calm my body and mind. Breathing out, I smile. Dwelling in the present moment, I know this is the only moment. Let's breathe into this a little more now. Remember these tips. Avoid wearing things that you can't run in, dance with, or breathe freely in. Okay, it's just that simple. I don't need to say any more. Pause throughout the day to notice how you're breathing. Okay, and maybe if you notice that you are holding your breath somewhere, um, you're not breathing fully at certain times, ask yourself why. If your breathing's shallow, if your breathing's heavy, why just checking in with your body. You want to get to know your body more, you want to get to know why things are happening and understand and grow and be your best self. We need to ask ourselves why, right? So stress less, managing where needed, because stress is going to cause constriction in our body, it's going to cause less blood flow, and that's just of course going to constrict our breath as well. So, stress, as we know in this day and age, is the cause of all illness. Not breathing properly is a form of stress, it is a sign that your body is stressed. Breathing properly is essential for optimum well-being. Some breathing exercises for waking up the breath, a daily practice will help to retrain your body. So I took a few from a few suggestions from the book. Tapping with relaxed fists, or if you've got some long, strong fingers, you know, you can tap that way too, I believe. Um around your chest, below your collarbone, around the sternum, using strong and steady motions. Take five full breaths while you're doing this. Inhales and exhales, ending the last fifth breath with a ha, like a ha. And repeat on the lower ribs below your breasts the same steps. Five inhales and five exhales. Ending the fifth exhale with a ha yoga poses while breathing intentionally will open up your breathing channels as well, of course. That's where prana rama breath comes in to do that with your yoga practice. And I will also link, uh, have some pranayama practices that are my favorite. I will link in the show notes as well. So the best options for this are cat and cow, extended childs, threading the needle, which will really help open up your hips. We always forget about our hips, but our hips are so important. They're right in the middle of our being, they're holding us up. And opening those hips will help everything to flow. Remember, everything is connected in the body. Revolved belly and supported bound angle, which is reclined butterfly pose. These are all ways to open up the breath, to help relax the shoulders and the upper body, which will help you to breathe better. So there are many more in the breathing book link. And I'm calling something vortex therapy, which I have not yet googled, but it came to me and it could possibly be a thing, also known as God consciousness. This is when we lock into our true being, like click, click, click. This is how we raise up our vibrations by breathing right. Is true bliss really this simple? Number one first step is breath awareness and the practice of whole body breath or belly breathing, right? Like I said, inhaling that inhale, that breath goes all the way down into your organs, fills up your belly. Open yourself up, connect to your intuition through your gut. Your gut is being full, it's expanding, your inhale is going all the way down into your being and your gut, it's it's bringing energy and blood flow into your gut. And as we know, gut health is essential and it is the key to everything else, right? So if our guts are constraints, if our guts are not getting the proper nutrients, including oxygen, and that breath bringing in the oxygen blood flow, then it is going to suffer. And the gut, as we know, is connected to our intuition, to our higher self. So this is all connected. And I did not mention, you know, I was like thinking of things even as I was sleeping last night, I think, and as I woke up this morning, because I I posted the blog this morning as I was getting up, it was on a schedule, but um, of course, I want. Mentioned being in nature, grounding barefoot on the earth. These are ways I believe will naturally help your breath to open up as well. And if we can practice our breathing in nature, I believe that will help us connect as well in a higher way, in a more sustainable way. That can mean things can happen quicker for you. The practice can be easier, you can understand it better, it can just really be embodied better. So nature will always bring you closer to your highest self, to your intuition, and also help your gut health. Okay, please. I will try to remember to put a link to my gut health podcast where I talk about microbes and how important that is. Being in nature will help with that. So I'm going to end today with another, let's call this a poem by the master Great Nothing of Sung Shang, a Taoist canon of breath, it's called. Be thrifty with affairs, think clearly. The body will consequently be light, and the hundreds of arteries will flow and irrigate. The four limbs communicate pleasantly, the thousand calamities disappear, and the hundred illnesses are healed. One does not fear being injured by the cruel tiger or the wolf. In addition, one gets rid of old age and extends life forever. Okay, what more could you want? What more could you want, y'all? Okay, so that pretty much says it all. And this is all about breathing. More breathing tips, practices, and exercise again are found in that breathing book. I'm linking it in the bio. Please send your love and support, a comment, a share, um, follow, whatever you may do. Please just do something because it really does help the rhythm so more people can find this. And I appreciate you for being here. I appreciate all of you for everything you're doing good in the world. Let's love one another. And until next time, be well, you know.
